I heard about this concept from my niece. I contacted Earth and found the facts. When you're gone, they pick your body up and prepare it with organic compounds. I was told it take about 7 months for the body to turn into compost. (But you don't have to worry, cause you won't be in it.) Then off to a location to be mixed with existing soil and rejuvenate the land! (Talk about getting your hands dirty!) I've always wanted to "return something to Mother Earth". This is the way to do it. We humans take and take from Earth. We leave nothing except scares and trash. (Also, a couple of ex-girlfriends thinks of me as dirt anyway, so this is only fitting.) [Joke]

It's a great idea and I think a lot of folks would rather return something to Earth, rather than be buried in a tomb. I'm not a Pharo and at my age the only things that will find me appealing are bugs and such. So being buried in a casket someone can dig up in 200 years; I think what they find will be disappointing. And I like the idea of the 5 trees being planted. (I hope they're planted somewhere in the USA.)

I believe I have a passion and I’ve always been searching for something like Earth and recently. I came across as I was getting my death certification and then my dad passed and the first thing without a thought was to call Earth. I know that this is what I wanted for my father and I know this is what I want for myself and I do believe that there is no other choice going forward as our planet Sustain coffins being buried on top of each other and that pollution in the toxins that go along with cremation is also not sustainable for our planet and earth is not only sustainable, but it is beautiful and everybody there has been absolutely wonderful walking me through each and every step and no question is a dumb question and for every time I called and had one there was a beautiful answer and a loving kind human being to speak with me and I got to watch the process when I logon to see when the 45 days were up and where my dad soil was going to go and some of it came home to me where it is going to be placed in sacred places on my land and some family members lands and I’m teaching the grandchildren about this and how to grow with the soil and it’s been a beautiful experience and it really helps because going through all the emotions and heartache of loss in the morning and the grief process knowing that you’re doing something beautiful that’s going to keep our planet pure and surviving for generations to come. It’s a big thing and I think that this shed so much knowledge and light on that and it is just absolutely amazing and I could not recommend, anything more than this and it is so dear to my heart I think that the more we can spread the word about this the better our planet is going to be 🙏🏽🫶🏽🙏🏽

It’s fairly new, and it seems a more natural way to deal with death. It’s not tied up with a bunch of religious rigmarole in which I don’t participate, so this is better for me. I’m not going to get a Twenty-one Gun Salute, a draped coffin nor a news story at 11:00. Everything that Earth did was perfect. From my initial inquiry 6 months ago to my receiving my wife’s soil yesterday. My youngest daughter had a horrific reaction to medication. She was brought to ED after being unresponsive, not breathing followed by cardiac arrest. Ecofriendly and Amazing Customer Service! Traditional funeral services are expensive and they include too many parts. The event of having to pick out a coffin or an urn to eventually be placed in is a very surreal experience. There are multiple designs and features to pick out but at the end of the day, it’s all going into the ground to hopefully never be seen again. The cremation process seems a little less involved but you still need to pick out a $1k or more urn. It’s all seemed too wasteful to me. When I heard about Earth and the services they provide, it was like a spa before eternal rest. Wildflowers and a shroud? Sounds perfect. Family can take some of your soil in a small compostable bin? Love that it’s waste-free! Trees get planted in my honor AND we get to help with reforestation? Literally sign me up. Everything about Earth has been out of a dream. The services are exactly what I’ve always looked for in a pre-arranged funeral service, the website was incredibly easy to navigate, and the customer service during the tour was top tier. Shoutout to Roe for being the most incredible representative at the Nevada location. If you’re thinking about checking it out or you’re even a little curious, I would say it is definitely worth the time to visit or speak with a representative. They are so patient and kind, so you definitely won’t regret it!

I have never wanted to have my body buried - such a total waste of land. So the only other option I was aware of was cremation. Before I made the commitment to this process I took a tour of the facility. It is so cool! Minimal carbon footprint, very positive impact on the environment. Plus it is a startup which is exciting to support. Frankly I find the entire process of body composting to be rather futuristic, fun, a little wacky, and just very cool. My wife was very much attuned to nature and ecology. She always expressed a desire to have her body just be returned to nature in the most ecological friendly and beneficial way possible. When she passed recently in October 2023, I honored her wishes and researched green burials. We live in California, and I found out green burials (that is composting of remains) was legalized in CA, but does not take effect until 2027. However, since Earth Funeral is based in Washington state, where it is legal, I contacted them. I still needed to go through a local funeral home in CA to handle the paperwork, such as the Death Certificates, pick up my wife's remains and work with Earth to arrange an air flight to SEA-TAC. Everything on both ends went smoothly and Amelia from Earth was exceptionally nice and responsive. It was all worth the money. There are family and friends of my wife who asked to have one set of soil (32oz container and 1 oz Keepsake). I am going to instruct my next of kin to use Earth Funeral when it is my turn.

We had a great experience with Earth. We had learned of composting when it was first approved in Washington State and reached out when we learned it was approved here in Oregon. They were so caring and kind throughout the entire process. My husband died suddenly and we had no arrangements made. They answered all my questions even when I repeated myself. The process does take time and you can select none, some, or all of the soil. When you pick it up remember, it is compost and smells accordingly. I had always thought being buried in a box seemed odd. And I had no idea the quantity of resources used in cremation. I plan to use their services as well. For some time I've wanted to avail myself of this path for dealing with my inevitable passing and not leaving it up to my loved ones to make the arrangements at a time when they are already grieving. But being a relatively new technology in addition to being fairly new as a company, I was hesitant to plunk down the money for fear that something might go wrong and I (or my loved ones) would be out a tidy sum of money. So I contacted Nicole at Earth with my reservations. I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience dealing with her. She explained that my payment would be held by a respected insurance company and would be safe, even in the event of default by Earth. As a result, I purchased their service and now I am confident that my passing will not be a financial burden for my loved ones. I was contacted by 3 separate people from Earth on Memorial Day when I was having difficulty with the online application and have followed up with Amelia who was very helpful. We have been looking for alternatives to cremation and having remains returned to the earth in some useful form looked like the answer. The direct burial sites are too far away and sounded like you would need to recruit you own team to accomplish that. The process has been thoroughly explained included the financial details.
