MARY MATTERN

March 3, 1942 - Feb. 24, 2025

Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth

Mary Lynn Klas Mattern passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2025, after a year of many challenges with her health. Up until the end, Mary did her best to be positive about her future, planning fun events, determined not to let her physical challenges hold her back. She continued to participate in the things she enjoyed, talking and visiting with friends, and spending time laughing, visiting, playing bridge and playing games with her family. Mary was born on March 3rd, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and lived in several places while growing up, including Salt Lake City and Seattle. She attended Whitman College in Washington State; she lived in Half Moon Bay, California for many years, and later lived in Ocean Shores, Washington. In both places, Mary made many wonderful and treasured friends, for which she was very thankful, and who enriched her life greatly. Mary lived a full and vibrant life, filled with travel, amazing and successful career paths in Real Estate and Mortgage Brokering, and fun times with family and friends. Mary was a mother of two, and she had 7 grandchildren, which were some of the greatest highlights of her life. She loved playing Bridge, was an incredibly talented knitter and gifted many people her beautiful afghans; she loved to read, loved her Bedlington Terriers, and her Canary, and truly enjoyed her Ocean view. She also enjoyed years of volunteering at the Interpretive Center in Ocean Shores. Mary is survived by her children Andrew and Laure, her 7 grandchildren, her two sisters Caroline and Jacqueline, and Nephews, and Nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, Siegfried Mattern. An Open House Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 5th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the family home in Ocean Shores where family and friends are invited to gather and honor her memory.

Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
