Martha “Murph” Carol Gagnon August 13, 1954 to June 25, 2024 Martha “Murph” Carol Gagnon, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother died on June 26, 2024 in Gig Harbor, Washington. Murph believed that a person could do anything if they wanted it enough, proving that many times in her life. She had a happy heart, believed that life was a joyous adventure to be shared and savored with others. Murph was born on August 13, 1954 in Bremerton, Washington to Carol and James Lyman. She achieved her childhood dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from Olympic Community College and obtaining Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Washington. She worked at various nursing roles including Oncology, Home Health, Hospice, teaching at Tacoma and Highline Community College and investigating elder abuse for Adult Protective Services. When asked, she maintained that Hospice was her favorite as it was an honor to be trusted at the passing of a loved one. Murph spent 20 years in the United States Army Reserve, with 5 years of active duty, attaining the rank of Major. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, camping, singing in church choirs, reading the daily newspaper, lunches with family and friends, family gatherings and being called “the greatest grandmother ever”. Her kitchen was the heart of gatherings where she supervised her daughters’ and husband’s cooking. Murph is survived by her husband Richard “Rick” Gagnon, children Jon Elmer, Leah Elmer, Darcey Torres, and Tammy Bailey, sister Niela Redford, brother James Lyman and ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents Carol and James Lyman, sister Mary Gilliam and longtime best friend Phyllis Dickerson. Murph held in her heart a deep faith that was the foundation of her life. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Crosby Community Club, 2135 Christopher Rd NW, Seabeck, Washington, at 1:00 pm on August 17th. She requested that in lieu of flowers the people who loved her carry out a living memorial to her life by making a conscious effort every day to bring a smile to the face of a stranger, comfort those in need, and celebrate life by sharing a happy heart with those around you.
