Our beloved adult offspring, Lin Hecate Grimm, also known as Possum, ellgrimm, zie.science, KinokoHutsuji, Grimm, and in childhood and adolescence as Rachel Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Charbonneau, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in Tucson, AZ, at age 32, after a short illness. Lin was gentle, kind and artistic, with a sidebar of sharp wit. We miss them terribly. Lin was born November 8, 1991, in North Richland Hills, TX, and lived in Keller, TX, until the family moved to Tucson, AZ, when they were in second grade. Lin attended Ironwood Elementary and Tortolita Middle School in Marana USD. Lin graduated from Marana’s Mountain View High School in 2010, and from Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington, in 2013. Over the years, Lin had a wide variety of work experiences, and learned about themselves, other people and the world with each position. Lin’s jobs included being a clerk at their grandparents’ hardware store in Texas, building artisanal kaleidoscopes, being head counselor for a Girl Scout summer camp, serving as a barista of fine tea, working on the kitchen crew making artisan raw sauerkraut and repping it at the Olympia Farmer’s Market, and assisting in production of an anti-COVID face mask that captured and neutralized the virus. Above all, Lin was an artist specializing in visual and digital media. Lin started to build artistic skills even before high school and continued throughout their life. Links to some of their art are at bottom. More recently, Lin was beginning to explore music; see links at bottom for a completed recording. Lin’s family extends sincere thanks to the medical personnel and staff at Golder Ranch Fire Department, Northwest Medical Center, Banner UMC Hospital, Banner North, Banner South, Banner Orange Grove, Casas Adobes Post Acute Rehab Center and the medical transport personnel who worked with Lin these past two months. We appreciate all your efforts. Lin is survived by their parents, Steven E ‘Steve’ and Lorena E ‘Lori’ Charbonneau of Tucson, AZ, and brother Thomas ‘Tom’ (spouse Wendy) Pledger, currently serving with the US Army in Washington, D.C. Also survived by partner BoLen Turnbow of Bastrop, Louisiana; partner Calix Smith-Crowley and their fur baby Minerva, of Sacramento, CA; grandmother Emily Gribble of Blue Ridge, TX; aunts Cathy Gribble Ries and Sheryl Gribble of Blue Ridge, TX, Virginia (Gary) Timm of White City, KS, and JoAnne (Scott) Breault of Wamego, KS; uncle Loren (Christine) Charbonneau of Clyde, KS; nieces Ann, Grace and Lilly Pledger of Washington, D.C.; and numerous heartbroken cousins, family members and friends. Lin was predeceased by grandparents Eddie and Leona Charbonneau of Clifton, Kansas, and grandfather Thomas Gribble of Blue Ridge, Texas. Desert Sunset Funeral Home, Tucson, AZ, and Earth Funeral of Auburn, Washington, https://earthfuneral.com , attended to Lin’s remains. Lin’s transformed remains have been spread on degraded farmland on the Olympic Peninsula, Washington, that is being rehabilitated and replanted with native trees and plants. Beginning next year, the Earth property will be open one or two days a year for family and friends to visit. The Pacific Northwest was a special place for Lin – they attended college there, made many lasting friendships, and worked and lived there for several years after college. Lin’s parents treasure memories and pictures from recent camping trips with Lin – one in 2016 on the Olympic Peninsula and one in 2022 on the Pacific coast. All are invited to Celebration of Life events being planned for Lin over the next few months at places that were important in their life. Celebrations have been held/are planned for Seattle, Washington, on June 7, 2024; Leonard, Texas on June 16, 2024; Canby, Oregon on August 3, 2024; Talmage, Kansas on October 19, 2024; and November 16, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona. A final celebration is being planned in early 2025 in Sacramento, California. At Lin’s Celebration of Life events, the family would love to meet with any and all who knew Lin or knew of Lin through family and friends, and who would like to share memories, laughter and perhaps tears with us.
