Gene was married to Judith Anne Corning, and had three sons – Jim, Jack, and William. Gene taught us a lot in life, including sailing, carpentry, river rafting, and scientific curiosity. Most of all, he taught us the value of honesty, education, and living our lives deliberately. At times he worked two jobs to make sure that ends met. We all owe a lot to his energy and determination. He worked in the Oakland schools for over 30 years as both an elementary school teacher and a reading specialist. Gene led us on some great adventures, introduced us to Alaska, and in his spare time he wrote four or five novels. We miss you, Gene!
