Donald Wing “Don” Eng died unexpectedly in Fremont, CA on July 18th, 2024 at the age of 68. His greatest joy was his family—his wife, Cyndie; his son, Zachary; his daughter-in-law, Ashley; his daughter, Zoe; his siblings, Betty and Ben; and his beloved Goldendoodle, Mushu. Don was born on December 19th, 1955 in Sacramento, CA to, Shiu Won Wong and Sun Hong Eng. The youngest of three children, Don was a talented high school football player before going to college at UC Berkeley. Don married Cyndie in 1986 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, CA. He was especially proud of his many accomplishments from his over 40 years in the transportation industry. As a devoted father, Don coached various student sports teams and used his love and skill in photography to capture those memories. He also volunteered as a photographer for Urban Shield, a global SWAT training event in the Bay Area. Don will be lovingly remembered for his humor, kindness, and warm listening. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Good Sports at goodsports.org, which supports child athletes in high-need communities. Don’s remains are returning to the natural world. A smattering of learnings we take from Don Eng, both explicitly stated and inferred: *Listen deeply to the friends in your life *Movies with walkie-talkies are better than ones without walkie-talkies * Protect the dog. Protect the family. *Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect *A photo is worth a thousand words and a good way to show how much you care *Stock every drawer in your home with more-than-appropriately-bright flashlights. The more the better, just in case. *The more syllables, the better *Why drink beer when you can have root beer? *Clear the mechanism *Take the time to tell other people how important they are to you As the Eng family - and some other heroes also - used to say when they embarked on a new adventure, "Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed. Roger, ready to move out."
