Newport - Dewey, 70, died in a motor vehicle accident just outside of Newport on the morning of April 17, 2023. Dewey was born in Brownwood, Texas and was one of four children to Martin Edwin Weaverling and Mary Virginia Skiles, both predeceased. Dewey served in the US Navy as an aviation mechanic aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his career as a mechanic at the Marine Science Center in Newport, working on cars, and repairing fitness equipment. He could fix just about anything and easily figure out how things worked. Dewey loved the outdoors, and spent hours walking with his dogs, especially his white husky “Ghost”. He also enjoyed flying large remote-controlled airplanes and riding his BMW motorcycle. He made amazing ginger cookies with big pieces of candied ginger! Earth Funeral will be handling final arrangements for organic internment. Per David’s wishes, there will be no memorial services.

Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
