Bruce Chittick

June 26, 1964 - Nov. 7, 2024

Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth

The beautiful spirit of Bruce Chittick, 60, of Seattle, WA, left his weary body on November 7, 2024. Bruce, the son of Rose Marie and Earl Richard (Dick) Chittick was born in Pontiac, MI, and raised in Herron, MI.  Bruce earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history, German, and English from Alma College in 1986. His faith led him to pursue a Master of Divinity which he achieved at Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry in 2009. He was ordained at Seattle First Baptist Church in 2010 where he has been a cherished member since first arriving in Seattle in 1997. After ordination, he was called to be the pastor of Burton Community Church, where he served for several years. Although a self-proclaimed introvert, Bruce connected with many with his thoughtfulness and humor. He channeled his love of reading into a long career at Barnes and Noble, opening, closing, and managing most of the stores in western Washington during his career. He also found a creative and meditative outlet in cross-stitch; a treasured piece hangs in his mother’s home. He is survived by his beloved son, Spencer Kaake-Chittick and caregiver/former husband Russell Kaake; mother, Rose Marie Chittick; brother Steven Chittick; sisters Marlo Broad (Gerald) and Nicole Chittick (Alan Plummer); and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Greg and his husband Jimmy. A memorial service for Bruce will be held at Seattle First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 am. Remembrances and donations may be directed to the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists or the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches.

Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
