Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth

Larkin Carol Wells passed away suddenly and tragically on December 8, 2024. Taken too soon, Larkin’s vibrant life shone brightly for all who had the privilege of sharing it with her. She was a strong yet sensitive force of nature. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Larkin was the beloved daughter of Michael and Shannon Wells. She was also a devoted sister and best friend to Brody Wells. From an early age, her strong will and determination served her well and kept everyone on their toes. Larkin was a proud graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where she thrived both academically and athletically. Her love for the outdoors and the environment defined much of her life. Her passion for nature led her to Cal Poly Humboldt University, where she earned a degree in Environmental Science & Business. Following her graduation, Larkin spent the summer working in forest and meadow conservation around Lake Tahoe, a place she had enjoyed annual family trips. She made the most of her summer in Tahoe by regularly going to her beloved annual family destination, Wright’s Lake. It was not uncommon for her to wake at 4:00 AM to embark on a grueling yet inspiring hike with her faithful canine companion, Ziggy, by her side. Most recently, she was about to begin a career in teaching, having just been hired as a Middle School Science teacher in Northern California. Larkin grew into a statuesque and fiercely strong woman–physically, mentally, and emotionally. She was unafraid to break down barriers and challenge preconceived notions, proudly earning her Wildland Fire Chainsaw Certification, a testament to her grit and determination. Larkin’s impact extended far beyond her achievements. She empowered the women in her life, including her cousins Eva, Maggie, and Riley, whom she loved like sisters, always reminding them of their value and beauty. She was a confidante, a source of laughter, and the first to jump into a silly skit or spontaneous dance, creating lasting memories for all who knew her. Whether the first to dive into the cold morning water or join any ensuing game, Larkin always met the moment with full energy and authenticity. She had an incredible ability to immediately transform any new living space into her own, infusing it with her distinct warmth, personality, and her unique sense of style–a reflection of her deep appreciation for creating a welcoming home environment. She loved to bake, endlessly perfecting the family cookie recipe until everyone agreed it was just right—though that never stopped her from trying to make it even better. Larkin was preceded in death by her Papa, John Wells, and her Gruncle, Sam Wells. She is survived by her parents Mike & Shannon, brother Brody, Grandparents Sandy Wells and Mike & Lynne Driscoll, and Uncles, Aunts & cousins, Charlie & Neesha Wells (Eva), Tim & Kirsten Wells (Maggie & Adam), Kerry Driscoll (Jackson), Erin Driscoll (Kade & Riley). A Remembrance Service will be held on Saturday, February 1st, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Virginia Country Club – 4602 N. Virginia Road, Long Beach, CA 90807. While we appreciate your support, we ask that, if you do not have or had a personal relationship with Larkin, Mike, Shannon, or Brody, please kindly refrain from attending the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations that support her passions, such as The Sierra Club Foundation (sierraclubfoundation.org) or Earth Justice (earthjustice.org).

Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
