Jeanne graduated from David Douglas High School and went on to earn a BA in Physics from Reed College, both in Portland, OR. She earned a Masters Degree in Physics, and later a Master of Divinity and a PhD in Religion and Social Change from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO. Jeanne’s early career in Physics centered around sustainable energy in the 1970’s, long before it was on the public mind. In the early 1980’s she switched course and attended Iliff School of Theology, beginning a long career as a United Methodist minister. In that career she was both a pastor and a long time activist for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the Church. Jeanne is survived by her spouse, Marcia Hauer, daughters Andrea Knepper and Laura Bowman, grandchildren Drew Bowman and Ellie Bowman, brother David Knepper, and many other family members and friends. Jeanne had a deep love of nature, fierce protection of family, and unwavering commitment to justice. Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
