Today, we said goodbye to the matriarch of our family. To the world, she was Irma—but to us, she was a Wife, Mom and Grandma. Born on March 10, 1933, to German immigrants, Irma lived a life defined by her faith in God, strength, devotion, and quiet determination. Her independence, deep sense of duty, and unwavering commitment to her family shaped everything she did. For over five decades, Irma was a cornerstone of her church community. She taught Sunday school, opened her home with warmth and generosity, and prepared meals for hundreds during church gatherings—nourishing not just bodies but spirits. Professionally, Irma was a respected leader who served as Executive Director of the E.L. Cord Foundation for more than 30 years. She worked with passion and purpose until the remarkable age of 87, dedicating her life to service and philanthropy. Irma was an avid square and ballroom dancer, an enthusiastic (if off-key) singer, a puzzle lover, and an adventurous traveler. She handmade Barbie clothes, baked cookies from scratch, and ensured holidays were always celebrated together. Her most cherished role was within our family. Her mission in life was clear: to love and uplift her family. She worked tirelessly to create a foundation on which we could thrive. But more than that, she instilled in us the enduring values of faith, family, duty, and resilience. Irma is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Bill and Tina; Grandkids, Nicole, Kyle, William, Isabelle, Emily, and Nicholas; and many great grandchildren. Irma’s legacy is not only in what she did, but in who she helped us become. We will carry her love and values with us always.
