Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth Leaf - Earth

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Hiroko Yamaguchi Porshnikoff, who left us on May 8, 2025, at the age of 88, in San Francisco. Born in Sapporo, Japan, on March 10, 1937, to Kouji and Yoshi Yamaguchi, Hiroko's journey was one of intellect and boundless curiosity. After graduating from Sapporo Minami High School in 1956, she pursued her passion for Literature and Philosophy at Sapporo Seitoku Technical School and Keio University, graduating in 1964. Her early career as a bookkeeper in Sapporo was but a prelude to a new chapter that began in 1967 when she brought her talents to San Francisco as Chief Clerk for Suehiro Restaurant. Hiroko, a beacon of grace, charm, and quick wit, was deeply loved and will be profoundly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She possessed an epicurean spirit, delighting in the world's flavors and cultures, and her thirst for knowledge led her to a lifetime of self-study and travel. Her kind and compassionate heart extended to all creatures, particularly the several dogs she lovingly fostered alongside her devoted sister, Kyoko. For nearly sixty years, Hiroko and Kyoko shared an unbreakable bond in their adopted home of San Francisco. Hiroko was a devoted mother to her son Herman and daughter Sasha, and grandchildren Nichol, Nicholai, and Brandon. Her warmth was a comforting embrace, and her infectious giggles could light up any room. These precious memories, and the love she so generously gave, will be treasured always and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Leave the earth with beauty

Earth specializes in soil transformation, an environmentally-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. Over a 45-day process, we gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. We then send this soil to our local conservation land where it’s used for restoration projects such as reforestation and nourishing challenged ecosystems.
